TEK-AIR FLOWMETER - HVAC AIR FLOW TECHNOLOGY MEASUREMENT

 

Tek-Air has provided laboratory airflow control systems since our incorporation in 1983. The experience gained through the completion of hundreds of installations, for a wide variety of customers, is reflected in our design philosophy. Our design for each project is intended to embody the following key elements of this philosophy.

Be it airflow, space pressure, or face velocity; if a parameter is important enough to be controlled, it should be measured directly. Most competitors of fume hood controls measure sash open area only and then position a calibrated mechanical volume regulator (springs, bearings, and levers) to achieve volumetric flow control.

Tek-Air has designed fume hood controls for many specialized Hood applications using three different methods of control.

> Control based on the Velocity Measurement of the air drawn from the room through the open sash over our velocity sensor. Virtually any occurrence which affects the face velocity is detected by the sensor, even those which are caused by improper use of the hood. This measured face velocity is used as the parameter for the controller to change the flow in the duct to maintain face velocity set point.

> Control based on Sash Position with Flow Measurement is an enhanced version of what our competitors provide using the sash position to determine the volume set point for the hood. Tek-Airtakes accuracy and safety a step further by providing flow measurement in the fume hood duct where the volume set point is used as an input to the controller which is monitoring and controlling the duct air flow.

> Control based on Constant Volume or Two Position Control where a constant face velocity at the sash is not as critical as the two other methods. Even though this is simpler to accomplish with less hardware, Tek-Air still measures and controls the duct air flow, and provides face velocity monitors to alarm individuals when the hood is outside of acceptable limits.

The VT-2000 Airflow Measurement Probe consists of multi-sensor probes available as insertion probes or in pre-assembled airflow stations. Individual sensors provide frequency pulse outputs which are directly proportional and linear to airflow velocity.

VORTEK FLOW TECHNOLOGY MEASUREMENT

The VT-5000 Airflow Measurement Probe consists of multi-sensor probes inserted in the ductwork where airflow is to be measured and transmitted. Individual sensors on the probes provide pulse frequency electronic output signals which are directly proportional and linear to the airflow velocity. These signals are totalized in the companion transmitter and converted to an industry standard, 4-20mA output. (1-5 VDC or 2-10 VDC are also selectable by jumper).

The VT-7000 Airflow Measuring Device consists of multi-sensor probes mounted on a bar and installed in the inlet of large fan inlets. Individual sensors on the probe provide frequency pulse type electronic output signals which are directly proportional and linear to airflow velocity. These signals are totalized in the companion transmitter and converted to an industry standard, 4-20mA output. (1-5 VDC or 2-10 VDC are also selectable by jumper.)

DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE AIRFLOW PROBES

The TFP-5000 Airflow Measurement Probes have an extremely low YAW angle effect throughout the 30° range, an improved signal-to-noise ratio, and they generate an amplified differential pressure signal, improving the ability to make low velocity measurements. Insertion Probes can easily be installed in either new or existing ductwork by cutting small entry holes in either side and installing the sensors across the duct area. Where the sensor must be removed for periodic inspection or cleaning, insertion probes provide an excellent measurement solution. The TFP-5000 probes are manufactured in one-inch increments in lengths from four to 146 inches long, for rectangular, circular, and oval ductwork. Achievable accuracies are typically within 2% of actual airflow.

SPACE PRESSURIZATION MONITOR SYSTEM FOR ISOLATION ROOMS AND LABORATORIES

The Iso-Tek space pressurization monitoring system is designed for use in a wide variety of applications that necessitate the monitoring of airflow from one room to another. The monitor system can be configured by the user for bi-directional measurement of either air velocity in feet per minute (fpm), or air pressure in inches of water column ("wc").

VELOCITY SENSING FUME HOOD CONTROL SYSTEM

For basic constant velocity fume hood control using face velocity measurement, Tek-Air recommends model FVC-2100 or FVC-2200. The two systems utilize identical components with the exception of duct exhaust volume sensing equipment added to the FVC-2000 to provide flow limit control. Tek-Air's VorTek airflow traverse probes provide volumetric measurement in that application.

SASH SENSING FUME HOOD CONTROL SYSTEM

For basic constant velocity fume hood control using sash position sensing, Tek-Air recommends model FVC-2600. This system utilizes sash position to reset the volume setpoint in the duct exhaust volume sensing equipment. Tek-Air's VorTek airflow traverse probes provide volumetric measurement in that application.

OUTDOOR AIR MEASUREMENT SYSTEM

The IAQ Outdoor Air Measurement system is designed for accurate measurement in outdoor air inlet situations where low velocity, dirt, moisture and turbulence affect other products in quantifying the volume of fresh air to the building. The IAQ utilizes a Patented air flow sensor in conjunction with a transducer and monitor assembly, which incorporates intuitive directions for the user in setting up and maintaining the product.

HIGH PERFORMANCE FUME HOOD MONITOR

The Apex Premier™ utilizes state-of-the-art technology to provide the highest level of performance achievable in a fume hood monitor. The heart of the Apex Premier is the smart sensor module which is responsible for accurate, repeatable and instantaneous measurement of fume hood face velocity. Face velocity measurement is made by an ultra-sensitive micro-bridge mass airflow sensor with a response time of less than 3 milliseconds. The analog signal provided by the micro-bridge is digitized by a high-resolution A/D converter, then further enhanced and factory calibrated over the operating velocity range by an automated test an calibration system.

The SmartLab Controller is a versatile, high-speed direct digital controller specifically for airflow and temperature control in laboratories and other critical environments. The SmartLab Controller is a fully distributed microprocessor-based controller, operating interdependently with other controllers in the lab. Although each controller may share data with other controllers, each is capable of maintaining its own control loops without intervention of other networked or central controllers.

SLI-N2 CONVERTER - SMARTLAB SYSTEM

Designed solely for use with Tek-Air's SmartLab Control System, the SmartLab Interface Converter provides seamless integration to Johnson Controls N2 network. The design of the SmartLab Interface Converter provides a true communications protocol converter. There are two ports for connecting the converter. The signals are isolated, and the communications protocol is converted from one side to the other side in a bi-directional fashion.

SMARTLAB SYSTEM LAB INTERFACE MODULE

Designed solely for use with Tek-Air's SmartLab Control System, the LIM-2000 provides a communications port into a SmartLab network. The design of the LIM-2000 incorporates a true communications signal repeater. There are two ports to the repeater. The signal is isolated, and then boosted in strength from one side to the other in a bi-directional fashion. The main trunk connects all LIMs to one another and to the front end computer. Due to the isolation provided by each LIM to its respective lab, if there is a failure in the lab network, the main network remains unaffected. Conversely, if there is a failure in the main network, the lab remains unaffected.
