TEK-AIR FLOWMETER - FVC2100 SERIES - VELOCITY SENSING FUME HOOD CONTROL SYSTEM

 

For basic constant velocity fume hood control using face velocity measurement, Tek-Air recommends model FVC-2100 or FVC-2200. The two systems utilize identical components with the exception of duct exhaust volume sensing equipment added to the FVC-2000 to provide flow limit control. Tek-Air's VorTek airflow traverse probes provide volumetric measurement in that application.

Both systems provide face velocity control using the "sidewall sensing" method. The basic system consists of a controller, sensor probes, display unit, I/P converter, and exhaust air control valve. The controller is typically wall-mounted above the fume hood. The thermal face velocity sensor in the controller connects via PVC tubing to the hood probe mounted on the inner sidewall of the fume hood and the reference probe mounted outside the fume hood interior.

The FVC2100 and FVC2200 also works well with the AV3000 control valve when the I/P output is wired to the fast acting electric actuator.

Principle of Operation
The FVC2100/2200 consists of seven basic elements:
1. Hood and room reference sensor probes
2. Controller with internal face velocity sensor
3. Display
4. Electronic to pneumatic converter
5. PRD exhaust air valve
6. Optional VorTek airflow probe (Model 2200)
7. Configuration tool (not shown)
In simple terms, the desired face velocity setpoint is pre-established and programmed into the controller. The exhaust fan draws air through the open sash area and room reference sensor probe. Air drawn through the probe passes through the face velocity sensor in the controller housing where it is measured and reported to the controller, then exhausted through the hood sensor probe and out through the duct. The controller compares the measured face velocity against the setpoint and adjusts the air valve accordingly to main-
tain the desired face velocity.
